Acrylic GS / XT

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is an amorphous, thermoplastic material with high transparency.

It is brittle and has high strength, stiffness and hardness.

Due to its high thermal shock and UV resistance, it is highly stable against weathering and ageing.

Compared to glass, acrylic glass has a higher transparency, is more shatterproof, lighter and more malleable.

Properties:

  • high hardness, stiffness and strength
  • high transparency
  • high heat deflection temperature
  • good electrical and dielectric insulating properties
  • good weathering resistance
  • low stress crack resistance
  • low chemical resistance
  • low toughness (brittle)
  • polishable surface
  • hot formable
  • easy to bond

Applications:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Store and stand construction
  • Glazings
  • Functional models
  • Covers

PMMA is divided into extruded (XT) and cast (GS) material. The extruded acrylic glass is the most cost-effective variant. The cast acrylic glass is superior to the extruded one in the following points:

  • Optics
  • Machining
  • Thermal forming
  • Bonding
  • Continuous operating temperature
  • Chemical Resistance
